UK Cold Snap
The weather all over the world is not like it used to be and when the weather turns sour, the airports are usually effected. The airports in Derry and Edinburgh have been closed due to heavy snow. Forecasters are reporting a week of severe conditions as those driving across the UK are forewarned to drive carefully when heading to work.
Record low temperatures have gripped Britain with Saturday night going amazingly low to minus 17C in Wales. Minus 2.5C was recorded in Shawbury in Shropshire as a blanket of snow covered much of the country. These conditions are said to be caused by a mixture of clear skies, light winds and snow cover and later this week, Scotland might experience temperatures down to minus 20C.
Michael Dukes of MeteoGroup commented that these ridiculously low temperatures have been compared to the middle of Scandinavia. According to weather history, it was on November 14, 1919 when the UK recorded the lowest temperature in Braemer at 23.3C. Forecasters today warn people that these severe conditions might last into next week. With motoring rescue dealing with about 15,000 breakdowns on Saturday, this puts the normal November Saturday up by eighty percent.

Scancom is a supplier of Blackberry products and one of 20,000 users of the Chatter platform. The way its employees use social networking reveals some of its advantages, but also a certain lack of depth.
Scancom’s MD, Chen Kotecha, says using Salesforce Chatter helps his employees to solve problems faster, because they get up-to-date information constantly pushed at them by other people in the organisation.
“I may not know what a particular staff member is working on right now. But I don’t want to go and keep asking him. So now I can know from his status update what he’s doing. And he knows what I’m doing as well.” Said Kotecha.
Chatter is largely an imitation of Facebook and many of the same principles apply. Employees build personal profiles, form groups, send status updates, and share information openly. However, Chatter is not the only social networking tool for business – it has competitors like Yammer, Socialtext and LinkedIn, which all work on similar principles. If these tools take off, then perhaps ‘pivotal individuals’ within companies really will get noticed, and businesses will become better meritocracies as a result.

Giant Snowballs Block Roads
Gritter drivers in the West of England were called away from gritting their main routes as they were needed to clear giant snowballs placed on the roads by Pranksters.
Giant snowballs were blocking traffic routes in Barry Road and Rookery Lane in Aldridge.
The local councillor Adrian Andrew said that the massive balls of snow were put in place by ‘irresponsible yobs’.
Andrew said ‘These giant snowballs have been put in place by louts and could have blocked emergency services.’
A council digger was used to break the snowballs up and remove the compacted snow that was left. A council worker said that the parts looked like the head and body of a giant snowman, although it would be impossible to lift onto the other.
